Demolition of Equatorial Begins
THE demolition of Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur, one of the city’s oldest landmarks, has begun.
The hoarding is up along the perimeter and along Jalan Sultan Ismail, while work is under way to seal the back entrance accessible via Jalan Tun Perak.
A “No Entry” sign has also been put up, with a warning that trespassers will be prosecuted. Some parts of the building have been demolished with the debris left lying around.
Tractors were also seen at the site. It was reported earlier that the 39-year-old hotel in Jalan Sultan Ismail, which was opened in 1973, was old-fashioned as it was designed to meet the architectural style of the 60s.
