Despite Massive Land Title Changes, Selangor lawmaker say few know of MBPJ Draft Plan

PETALING JAYA, Sept 10 — A Selangor lawmaker today expressed concern that Petaling Jaya residents may be unaware of considerable changes to land titles in the area included in the city council’s latest draft local plan, or Racangan Tempatan Petaling Jaya (RTPJ).

 Damansara Utama assemblyman Yeo Bee Yin said that in contrast to the complaints raised against the proposed Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Highway (DASH) and the title change for a plot of land for religious use, few have lodged objections over the RTPJ.

“Over 1,000 objections have been filed against DASH and the plot of land in SS4B but there have been no objection towards the council’s draft to change residential land titles to limited commercial,” she told reporters today.

 In RTPJ 1 and 2, the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) plans to reassign residential land titles to a limited commercial title as many of the houses have been converted into shoplots and showrooms.

 Under RTPJ 1, 9.68 hectares or 4.9 per cent of 2,160.7 hectares has been proposed for change of land use.

 For RTPJ 2, 808.95 hectares or 10.75 per cent of a total of 7,559.98 hectares will be affected by the switch in land titles.

 The changes in the second blueprint will affect 179 plots of land in SS2 and 47 plots of land in Taman Megah.

 Yeo acknowledged the houses along the main roads leading in and out of SS2, are no longer liveable and are already functioning as commercial buildings, but said that Taman Megah is still a residential area.

 The state lawmaker warned that changes to the land titles would affect landowners in the long run.

 “I’m neutral about the changes planned by the council but I’m curious if the people are aware of the changes that will impact their livelihood,” said Yeo.

 “Even if they have no objections, it is good to be aware of what’s happening your neighbourhood,” she added.

 Yeo then urged residents in the affected areas to download the blueprint of MBPJ’s website or pick up copies from her service centre for free, as the original blueprint costs RM120 each.

 She has also offered to have the post the free copies to property owners who are unable to make the trip to her office, saying they may send their contact details via text message to 011-2328-0028.
