Mustapa: MIDA Attracting Quality Investments With Higher Paying Jobs
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) has been able to attract quality investments into the country, resulting in manufacturing jobs which previously paid between RM1,000 to RM2,000 per month, now at RM3,000, the Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said on Friday.
"MIDA attracted RM7 billion in investments last year. Over 70 per cent of the jobs created from the investments approved in 2010, will offer salaries of RM3,000," he added.
Mustapa said this when explaining the confusion over his statement on Tuesday, that the ministry had set the high income salary bar at RM3,000, and considered it as "reasonable income" for those living in the Klang Valley.
"There's been some confusion. I'm not talking about a high income. But MIDA has the ability to attract higher paying jobs and under its definition, it is RM3,000 and above.
"This is an improvement from the previous year. Of course, a high income would be between RM8,000 to RM10,000 per month, he added.
Mustapa said this improvement was evidence that the country had managed to move up the value chain by attracting more higher quality jobs.
