Ramadan greetings the 'Spider-Man' way
KUALA LUMPUR: For most, a Facebook status to deliver Ramadan greetings would probably have sufficed.
But not for a daredevil local photographer, who scaled the 1 Sentrum tower in KL Sentral on Sunday afternoon to present his greetings for the holy month as awed onlookers watched from below.
The “Spider-Man” was later detained by police after reaching the top of the 33-storey tower at about 3pm.
Speaking to The Star on the condition of anonymity, the photographer said his thrill-seeking hobby began with mountain climbing but claimed he found scaling skyscrapers “safer”.
“I’m used to it, but mountains are dangerous.
“Buildings are easier because their structure is fixed. I can control where I go,” he said.
When asked what would happen if he fell, the man laughingly replied: “Then I die lah! But I am very confident that will not happen.”
Having spent only a few hours the day before to recce the tower, the photographer began scaling its ladder-like facade at about 2.30pm.
He was wearing sandals, a black shirt and pants, and had no harness or safety equipment with him.
All he carried was a portable digital camera mounted to his headband, a Malaysian flag and pieces of paper with Ramadan greetings on them.
His antics did not go unnoticed by the authorities.
When he was halfway up, an auxiliary policeman frantically peered out of one of the windows and asked him to come inside.
A bigger crowd began to gather below, cheering and clapping when the 26-year-old made it to the top of the building and waved the Malaysian flag he had tucked into his pocket.
After that, police detained him and took him to the Travers station, where he was questioned and released at around 3.30am yesterday.
